William Alexander Powell, affectionately known as "Doobie," was born on September 21, 1990, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was raised in a military family, experiencing life in various locations, including Stuttgart, Germany, Denver, Colorado, and Alexandria, Virginia. William passed away on June 11, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. His passing was attributed to unknown causes related to possible complications from Type I Diabetes and Kidney failure.
William dedicated his professional life to the hospitality industry, working as a front desk clerk at Marriott Hotels. He was recognized numerous times with awards, reflecting his unwavering dedication and exceptional service to guests. His commitment to his work was matched by his strong sense of community, as he cherished his relationships within both his family and church family, belonging to the World Mission Society Church of God.
Education played an important role in William's life. He earned his high school diploma from Montbello High School, class of 2009, in Denver, Colorado, where he excelled in sports such as football, baseball, and soccer. Alongside his athletic achievements, William's true passion lay in music. He began honing his musical talents in middle school, mastering numerous wind instruments, with particular affection for the trombone, trumpet, keyboard, and experimenting with drumming. His musical prowess led him to attend the University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) for two years, supported by a scholarship for his outstanding trombone skills.
William was known for his quiet demeanor and kind-hearted nature. He held deep love for his family, which included his mother Juaneva Palmer-Powell, father Reginald Powell, brother Cameron Powell, sister Tunisia Powell, and brother David Powell. He also carried the cherished memories of his deceased family members: maternal grandparents Willie F. Palmer and Jewell Brooks Palmer; paternal grandparents Marvin Powell, Sr. and Juliette Johnson; and uncle Marvin Powell, Jr.
A memorial service to honor William's life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO, commencing at 12:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a beloved son, brother, and friend whose quiet kindness and love for music touched the lives of many. William Alexander Powell "Doobie" will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
