Obituary

Walter Francis Bensing September 17, 1931 – June 7, 2026

Walter Francis Bensing, 94, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at Kansas City Hospice House following a brief illness.

Walt was born on September 17, 1931, the eldest of five children, to Walter and Anna Marie Bensing. Walt grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from East High School in 1949.

Walt served in the United States Army after being drafted in 1955 and married Hedwig “Hedy” Cook in 1958. Walt enjoyed a long career at Bendix Corporation and retired after many years of dedicated service. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family. He enjoyed camping trips throughout the United States and was especially proud of a memorable trip to Alaska with his family and mother.

A lifelong Catholic, Walt was a devoted member of Saint Catherine's Parish and, most recently, St. Thomas More Parish. He attended daily Mass whenever he was able and lived his faith through kindness, generosity, and service to others.

Walt never met a stranger. His warm smile, cheerful spirit, and genuine interest in people made him beloved by family, friends, and the broader community. He was known for his generosity and was always willing to support causes that were meaningful to him.

Walt was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Hedy Bensing; his parents, Walter and Anna Marie Bensing; brothers Richard and Charles Bensing; and sisters Mary Staihr and Ellen Belzer. He is survived by his son, Joseph Bensing, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.

Walt will be remembered for his unwavering faith, generous heart, devotion to family, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome.

Funeral services will be on Friday, June 19, at St. Thomas More Parish, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by the Rosary at 11:00 a.m. and Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO.
