Walt served in the United States Army after being drafted in 1955 and married Hedwig “Hedy” Cook in 1958. Walt never met a stranger. His warm smile, cheerful spirit, and genuine interest in people made him beloved by family, friends, and the broader community. He was known for his generosity and was always willing to support causes that were meaningful to him.
Walt was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Hedy Bensing; his parents, Walter and Anna Marie Bensing; brothers Richard and Charles Bensing; and sisters Mary Staihr and Ellen Belzer. He is survived by his son, Joseph Bensing, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will cherish his memory.
