Viola M. Fowler

Viola Fowler, 91, passed away May 8, 2018. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, with the Rosary prayed at 6:30pm on Friday, May 11 at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64131. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation be made to Kansas City Hospice House.
Viola was born April 19, 1927 in Clyde, MO to Clarence and Geneva Merrigan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a passion for caring for the sick and dedicated her life as a Registered Nurse at St. Marys Hospital 2700 Main, Kansas City, MO from 1948 until her retirement in February, 1988. She taught many Doctors, Nurses, and health care professionals. Nursing was her life and passion. She was an avid Royals fan and talked about the team like they were family, even converting her older sister. At the ages of 90 and 94, the two of them would call each other to discuss the games.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 61 years, Joseph; her son, Dennis Fowler; as well as her sisters, Alice Sheehan and Corky Wiederholt. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Kay Fowler, Sharon Fowler, and Rose Marie Fowler-Swarts (Steve); her sons, Don Fowler (Theresa) and Brian Fowler (Jan); as well as 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her close sisters, Mary Mahoney, Monica Nelson (Lynn), Dea Elkins (Walter), and her brother, Terence Merrigan (Ree). The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Forum of Overland Park.
