Thomas E. Purcell, 84, passed away serenely, April 24, 2021. Tom was born April 23, 1937, in Kansas City, MO, to Tom and Alice (Meiners) Purcell). He attended Rockhurst high school and college. Immediately after college, Tom went to UMKC dental school. He served two years as an officer in the US Navy. Like his father and grandfather before him, Tom ran a successful dental practice for 35 years upon returning to Kansas City. During his retirement, Tom gave back to the community in many ways. He established the Seton Center Dental Clinic and took dental missionary trips to Venezuela, Mexico, and Guatemala with his wife, Noreen. Tom spent many hours reading to children at the Upper Room and St. Monicas School. The Catholic Worker house became like a second home to him. He spent many years cooking and serving dinner to people in need. But more importantly, he formed genuine friendships with the people he served. In recognition for his commitment to helping others, he received the Bill Waris Volunteer of the year award in 2006 and was nominated by his son, Jeff, to carry the Olympic Torch in 2002. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe. He is survived by his wife, Noreen; a son Jeff and wife, Christy; daughter, Julie Lobb and husband Luke; grandchildren Zoe and Levi Purcell, Mary and Lucy Lobb; a brother, Pat Purcell; sister, DAnn Drieling.
