Therese Schorgl Powell

Therese Schorgl Powell, 84, of Wichita, KS passed away October 27, 2015. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, October 31, at 10 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, KCMO 64131, with reception/luncheon following. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be given to Central Christian Academy, 2900 N. Rock Rd, Wichita, KS 67226.
Therese was born July 28, 1931, the daughter of Francis and Marie (Dehner) Schorgl, in Kansas City, MO and graduated high school from St. Teresas Academy. She also attended Avila College. She married the late John T. Powell, Jr., on December 27, 1958, and subsequently moved to Minnesota where they lived for 20 years. They raised three children and returned to Kansas City in 1981. Therese enjoyed playing cards, travelling, and spending time with her family.
Therese is preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Liza M. Whitacre. She is survived by her three children, Anthony John Powell and his wife Betty of Wichita, KS, Andrew Lawrence Powell of Grand Prairie, TX and Cecilia Therese Whitacre of Palatine, IL, plus six grandchildren. She is also survived by her two brothers, Francis (Mary Virginia) Schorgl of Overland Park, KS and Charles (Nancy) Schorgl of Kansas City, MO and a sister, Mary (Harold) Wilson of Overland Park, KS.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Regent Park of Wichita and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice for providing compassionate care in her final days.
