Sharon Smart

October 14, 1942 — February 5, 2022

Sharon Smart, the oldest of 3 children of James M. Smart, Sr., and Agnes Brady Smart died in Kansas City, MO, on Saturday, February 5, 2022, after battling cancer for several years. Sharon graduated from Saint Teresa High School and attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. She was employed 44 years at Kansas City Life Insurance Company, a company she was immensely proud to be a part of. Supervisors at Kansas City Life often expressed to Human Resources their desire for Sharon to join their department when an opening occurred. She learned quickly and had a variety of positions by the time she retired. Sharon was a member of a variety of organizations. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity. She was a long-time member of the Kansas City Ski Club which awakened her desire to travel and enlarged her circle of devoted friends. She often volunteered on various Ski Club committees. As a life-long resident and a descendent of one of the pioneering families of Kansas City, Missouri, Sharon enjoyed local history. For the last several years, Sharon was on the Board of Westport Historical Society as well as on the Board of Native Sons and Daughters. In 2018, Sharon was presented with a special recognition award for her "exemplary service and leadership" for volunteering several years on the auction committee with the Native Sons and Daughters. She was also an active member of the BOTAR organization. Visitation Church was essential to Sharon where she worshiped all her life, as well as graduating from Visitation School. The last several years she fondly lived at Parkway Towers Condominium where many residents and staff became her loyal friends.
Sharon dearly loved God and her family. Sharons kindness, empathy, generosity and her desire to make the world a better place touched many people and made a difference in their lives.
She is survived by her sister, Sally Smart, and her brother, James Smart, Jr., her niece, LoriAnne Smart and nephew, Madison Smart, (Lane), her great nieces, Bella, Tenley, and Lila Smart and great nephew, Hudson Smart.
A funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Friday, February 11, 2022 at Visitation Church, 5141 Main, Kansas City, MO 64112. The family is requesting that those who attend the funeral wear a mask while inside the building.
Private graveside services will be held on February 11, 2022, at Mount Washington Cemetery, 614 S. Brookside Ave, Independence, Missouri 64053
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Visitation Church, 5141 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64112, and Operation Breakthrough, 3039 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64109.
