Obituary

Sharon Elizabeth McCullough, 82, left this world on Valentine’s Day, which is fitting as she truly touched the hearts of so many.

Sharon was born on April 11, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Ray and Lillian (Burns) Enright. She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Dave); brother, George (Barbara); her husband of 56 years, Tom; and their sons, Todd (Tricia) and Kevin; along with her grandchildren, Quinn, Caroline, and Noah, as well as her nieces and nephews. Sharon is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, Matthew Raymond, who was taken from this earth much too soon.

Sharon attended St. Elizabeth’s grade school and graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in 1960, where she first met her future husband Tom. Sharon and Tom dated for what seemed like an eternity to many and were “finally” married on October 17th, 1969. After working for several years at Bendix, Sharon retired young to stay at home and raise her three boys. Sharon and Tom have been members of St. Thomas More Parish since 1974, where their 3 boys attended school.

A true family woman and friend to many, Sharon always brought the fun. She was considered the “cool mom” by all the kids that lived in their Bridlespur neighborhood and she ensured her kitchen was always stocked with the best snacks for when her boys’ friends gathered. Her willingness to let her sons and their friends goolie behind her car in the fresh snow on the way home from school made her a legend. On Christmas Eve and Easter, Sharon and Tom welcomed all into their home. There was enough food and presents for everyone, and each guest was treated like family. For many memorable years, Sharon and Tom vacationed with their extended family in Branson which then transitioned to their home at The Lake of the Ozarks, where late nights on the deck sharing stories and laughs was an anticipated ritual. In more recent years, the McCullough’s enjoyed planning trips to new, exciting, far-off places with their 3 grandkids. Sharon cherished her grandchildren who they affectionately call “Namie”.

Friends and family alike have very fond memories of Sharon. She was full of adventure as evidence by her love of riding the Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun. A music lover at heart, Sharon would get out the vinyl records and dance with her boys after school. Getting together for lunch with her lifelong friends was always dear to her heart. Hershey’s, M&Ms, and Krispy Kreme donuts made a lot of money off Sharon’s love of chocolate. An avid Chiefs fan, a noon game on Sunday was the only legitimate reason she could find to force herself to get out of bed before 1 p.m. Sharon lived life to the fullest… all while smoking a cigarette, drinking a chocolate milk, and driving with her radio turned up! Sharon had a special place in her heart for animals. She happily supported most any charitable organization that provided a better life for neglected animals. And if you got a letter or card from Sharon, you could not help but notice the most beautiful handwriting produced by an even more beautiful person.

A rosary will be prayed Monday, February 23rd at 10:00am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Road, KC MO 64131. A burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to The Matthew McCullough Scholarship Fund at St. Thomas More School or The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City (5445 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, KS 66104).
