Rozann Davis Gicinto entered the gates of heaven on August 20, 2025, after a long journey with dementia. All services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Saturday, September 6, 2025. The Visitation will begin at 10am, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 11am. There will be a private family inurnment at a later date.
Rozann was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 2, 1936. She and her sister, Linda, grew up in Kansas City with their parents Cy and Rosalie. Their parents owned the Jewel Box nightclub lounge where their mother Rosalie Bell sang.
Rozann graduated from Paseo High School in 1954.
Rozann married the love of her life, Charlie Gicinto, and raised their family in south Kansas City. Rozann loved to travel. She and Charlie shepherded their children and two nephews on a wide array of adventures, from RV trips to Mexico City, to trips to Las Vegas, Hawaii, the Caribbean and many more. She was a fabulous cook, renowned for her sugo and impossibly tender meatballs made from scratch every Sunday. Sunday dinner was a staple for the family to get together and discuss everything going on in the world.
Rozann was a deep observer of life, curious and always interested in the goings on of her family and friends. Quick with a kind word and a steady port in a storm, Rozann was a rock for her entire family and her friends. She was generous with her time and wisdom, had a great sense of humor and often played jokes on people. Rozann was a good listener and made many friends who she cared deeply about.
Rozann worked at The Teamsters Union, Roto Rooter of Kansas City and the Jackson County Court House until her retirement in 2011. But her most important job, and the one she loved the most, was being a mom and grandmother. Rozann was an incredible mother and loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally.
Rozann was afflicted with dementia and moved into memory care in the fall of 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cy Davis and Rosalie Bell (LaBella) her husband, Charles Vincenzo Gicinto, sister Linda Davis Whitaker-Schmidt, and former husband George E. Leach.
She is survived by her son Christopher H. Leach (JoAnn) and daughter Regina Staves (Ryan), both of Kansas City. Grandchildren Anna Leach (Emma) of Brooklyn, NY, Elizabeth Leach (George) of London, UK, Taylor Staves (Teo) of Portland, OR, and Hunter Staves of Kansas City. Nephews John Whitaker (Kelly), Isaac and Dylan of Minneapolis, MN and Paul Whitaker (Amy) of Leawood, KS, Kennedy (Drew), and Price (Allie).
Rozann was a wonderful mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt and friend. She will always be remembered for her generous spirit and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, and in true memorial honor of Rozann, please do something kind for someone else in Rozann's name.
