Rosemary Anne Porembski, age 86, of Leawood, Kansas passed October 2, 2023 at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri. Rosemary was born in Albany, New York on January 22, 1937 to parents Francis and Genevieve (Brunner) Sweeney. She attended St. John’s Academy and then to complete her nursing certification, attended Albany Medical School of Nursing, Albany, New York. Rosemary went on to accomplish a 45-year career in Nursing. Five of those years were spent in Hospice Nursing.
Rosemary was joined in marriage to Robert Porembski on January 16, 1965. They were united in marriage until Robert’s passing on April 4, 2022. Rosemary was a proud member, for 40 years, of the Kansas City DOES where she was a three-time 5-year officer, and a past president. Rosemary enjoyed participating in her DOES activities, but also took great pleasure in spending time with her family and traveling with her husband Robert to the Lake of the Ozarks and to Cancun. She enjoyed playing cards and other games where she was able to socialize. Rosemary was known to be a fan of Billy Joel and Michael Bublé music. She had attended both artists in concert, as well as other live entertainment shows over the years. Rosemary had strong opinions and was very proud of her New York heritage, which shaped her growing up.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Robert. She is survived by her children: Michael Porembski, Mission, Kansas; Greg Porembski (wife Vanessa), Belton, Missouri; Brian Porembski, Overland Park, Kansas; Wendy Porembski (previous wife of Michael), Overland Park, Kansas; Allison Porembski (previous wife of Brian), Mission, Kansas; Grandchildren: Carly Benjamin, Kansas City Missouri; Lauren Benjamin, Hays, Kansas; Sophia Porembski, Overland Park, Kansas; Sydney Porembski, Kansas City, Kansas; Gage Nelson, Belton, Missouri. Rosemary is also survived by her three siblings and their families; Brother Frank Sweeney, Cropsyville, New York; Sisters: Diane Sweeney Hyman, Kinderhook, New York and Janet Mardy, Highland, New York.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2023, at St. Thomas More Parish, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation will be prior to Mass beginning at 10:00 a.m. Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. Reception for family and friends will follow services and be held at KC Elks Lodge, 515 E. 99th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, 64131.
