Rose Marie ("Ree") Fowler-Swarts, 66, passed away December 25, 2020 following a nearly 10 year battle with cancer. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am, Thursday, December 31 at Cur of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Rd, Leawood, KS, where the rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Don Bosco Centers or the United Way of Greater Kansas City.
Rose Marie was born December 4, 1954 in Kansas City, Mo., to Joseph and Viola Fowler. She graduated from Bishop Lillis High School and went on to get a bachelors degree in nursing from Avila University and a masters degree in nursing from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Rose Marie was a nursing professor at the University of Central Missouri and also worked as a registered nurse for Research Psychiatric Center, where she cared for people dealing with emotional disorders, mental illness and substance abuse. It was this work, her family and her years of volunteering with her childrens schools that drove and fulfilled her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dennis. Survivors include her husband, Steve; children, Stephen (Brittany) and their children Violet and Theodore, Ryan (Lauren), Lora (Peter); siblings, Mary Kay, Sharon, Don (Theresa) and Brian (Jan); and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
