IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert K.
Williams
February 8, 1959 – March 19, 2026
Robert Kevin Williams, affectionately known as "Bobby," was born on February 8, 1959, to Coann James and Frank Ralph Williams at Queen of the World Hospital in Kansas City, MO. They both preceded him in death. He was the first born and is survived by his three siblings: his younger brothers, Kevin Dwayne Williams-James and Todd O’Connor Mayes, and his younger sister, Suhaylah Bilqis (formally Virginia Mayes).
Bobby spent the earlier parts of his life in Centerville, IA, with his mother. He attended Garfield Elementary School and Howar Junior High. Around the age of ten years old, he was taken in by one of his great Aunts, Pauline (Albert) Hollingsworth, as a result of his mother’s decision to relocate to Syracuse, NY, alone, with one of her town friends, Kathy Jones. All of his siblings were raised separately from that point on. At that time, Bobby was raised with cousins, Stephen, Sybil and Marybeth; Those were vitals years of his life that impacted and shaped his character in various ways.
He confessed his faith and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ very early in life and always held his faith close to his heart. Bobby attended Second Baptist Church which was the family church. He recalled sometimes being asked to take fresh baked pies down to the church on demand. He continued his education as a Freshman and Sophomore at Centerville High School, where he played various sports such as basketball, baseball, track and football, which was one of his greatest passions. During his Junior year in High School, Bobby relocated to Syracuse, NY, to reunite with his mother at her request. He then attended Corcoran High School where he continued to play football. Bobby often reflected on how the coach rarely wanted to take him out of the game because he was soo good. He also reflected on how he got into lots of trouble in Syracuse, which led to his mother deciding to send him to Kansas City, MO, to live with his father. He completed his High School Diploma at Van Horn High School in Independence, MO.
Some years later, Bobby welcomed his daughter Jessica (baby Jessica) into the world at the age of 23, which brought him much joy; However it was short lived because Jessica's mother took her away to return to her mother's hometown of St. Louis, MO, to raise their daughter. Life continued to move for Bobby, and he began to go back and forth to Syracuse, NY, to be with his mom and back to Kansas City, MO, to be with his dad, among other places as well. Several unfortunate events occurred that affected his mental health and caused him to need to be appointed a legal guardian to help guide him through daily life. His dad secured that roll until his passing in 1996. Bobby then became a Ward of the State, which led to him being appointed a legal guardian by the State of Missouri. He then became a permanent resident in the care of Johnson County Care Center located in Warrensburg, MO, where he entered in 1999, at age 35, and remained a resident there until his passing at age 67, which was a total of 32 years.
Throughout the years, Bobby worked several jobs in-spite of his mental condition, including Steak ‘n Shake, Boatmans Bank and assembling parts for the trash company. During his stay at Johnson County Care Center, he was reunited with his long loss daughter, Jessica. September 24, 2017, was the first time he ever heard her voice and spoke to her over the phone, and December 2, 2017, was the first time Bobby saw her since she was born 35 years earlier as a result of Jessica visiting him at Johnson County Care Center. Over the course of 8 years, before his death, they were able to create wonderful memories, have much needed conversations to heal the wounds of the absence and gain closure. He was also blessed to meet his two grandchildren and son-in-law as well and connected Jessica to his relatives.
During his final days, Bobby was confined to a wheel chair, but somehow fell and hit his head causing the need for emergency surgery. While recovering from brain surgery, Bobby passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 19, 2026, at 1:09pm, in the care of Research Medical Hospital staff in Kansas City, MO. He leaves behind to mourn: his beloved daughter Jessica Cromer (Aaron); two grandchildren, Aaron Joshua Cromer and Jessica Cromer, each named after their parents; nieces, Dominique and Brittany James, Naundi, Ajuana, and Azjia Mayes; and 2 nephews, Austin James and Jovahn Overton; Uncle Ronnie James (Pat), who ensured they provided support consistently; Cousins: Stephen Hollingsworth (Maryann), who visited often and provided support, Sybil Williams (Andrew) and Marybeth Barnes (Joseph); Ronald J. James, Jr., and Kelly James; plus a host of other cousins, great nieces, and other relatives.
Bobby possessed a warm, loving heart, and the ability to light up the room with his charm and light hearted humor. He loved to sing random old songs and was ready to chime-in a tune randomly during conversations. He knew our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in a very personal and intimate manner. He would often end his phone conversations with his daughter Jessica (baby Jessica) by saying these phenomenal poetic words:
The A to Z
The beginning and ending of all of existence
The Alpha and the Omega
The Lord of Host is His name
The Holy of Holiest
And He will return on a cloud
And gather all of His children…
