Robert Emmett Shaw, 82, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026. He was born March 4, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Charles Firth Shaw and Loretta Veronica (Brady) Shaw. Robert lived a life defined by dedication, faith, and deep love for his family. He proudly served in the Army Reserves and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri, MU, in Columbia, Missouri. After college, he was fully immersed in working with his father and brother at Shaw Supply Company in Kansas City, Missouri. He then earned his law degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He devoted his professional life to the practice of law in Mount Vernon, Illinois, with his lasting partnership at Shaw & Martin, until the last 6 months of his life - truly his life’s passion. Faithfully serving his community, his faith was foundational to his being. He was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where his faith remained a guiding light. Just a year ago,Robert and his beloved wife relocated to Sarasota, Florida, where they resided near their two daughters. Wherever he lived, Robert formed lasting friendships through his warmth, kindness, and gentle humor. Robert was an avid car enthusiast, known for getting under the hood of his favorite Volvo - the engine of which he rebuilt from scratch. That engineering degree came in handy! He treasured every visit with his family in Kansas City and cherished the moments he could gather with those he loved the most. His steady presence, wisdom, and loving spirit will be remembered always. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Jeannette Ann Shaw; daughters Catherine Lynn Zaremba and Erin Shaw Cartland; grandchildren Stephen Zaremba, Theodore Zaremba, Nicholas Shaw Cartland, and Maria Ruth Cartland. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose legacy of love will live on in all who knew him. Visitation will held on Friday, March 6, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Homes Road, Kansas City, Missouri followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Robert will be laid to rest in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.
