Richard F. Wilkes, 88, passed away at his home in Kansas City, Missouri on January 8, 2022. Born to Martha and Francis Wilkes on March 16, 1933 in Syracuse, NY, Richard eventually made his home in Kansas City after marrying Allene Markey in 1961. He was a U.S. Army veteran, held various retail sales positions over the years, and was an avid golfer and reader. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Shirley Fenton, Thomas Wilkes, and Mary Bornstein, his wife Allene in 1995, and son-in-law Steven Knight in 2021.
Richard is survived by his son, Steven Wilkes and his wife Virginia, of Milton, MA, stepdaughter Pam Knight, Lees Summit, MO, granddaughters Jennifer Lehr (Kevin), Prairie Village, KS, Amy Spitaleri (Tom) and Brooke Bonadonna (Michael), both of Lees Summit, MO, and six great-grandchildren. Richard will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, several of which enjoyed visiting him over the years and spending quality time together on the golf course.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at St. Elizabeths Catholic Church, 2 E. 75th St., Kansas City, MO 64114. Burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64138.
