Richard Brummel

June 13, 1950 — March 5, 2022

Richard P. "Dick" Brummel, a lifelong Kansas Citian, passed from this life on March 5, 2022. He was a graduate of Bishop Hogan High School, Rockhurst College, University of Missouri-Kansas City and Loyola University New Orleans. He served for 34 years in the Federal Government retiring as the Deputy Regional Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Dick was Catholic and a proud Benedictine Oblate of Mount St. Scholastica Monastery. He was a tireless advocate for others, serving communities at home and abroad. Dick loved to read especially theology, history, and biographies. He spent many hours tending his yard and garden. He was a passionate Royals and Chiefs fan. Dick enjoyed the company of close friends and spent many an hour debating the topics of the day over a craft beer.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Jane, children Nathan (Anna) and Beth (Pip Potter), grandchildren Jack, Luke, and Graham Brummel, and Ada Potter, mother Mary Brummel, siblings Mark (Carolyn), David (Denise), Mike (Diane), and Patty. He was preceded in death by his father Harold and brother Phillip (Sue).
Services will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church on Friday, March 11, 2022 with visitation at 10AM followed by Mass at 11AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Catholic Relief Services
