Richard A. Zahner, Sr., 85, passed away surrounded by his wife and family on December 8, 2022. Richard was born to Leo and Allee (Dorsey) Zahner in 1937. He attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Grade School and De La Salle Military Academy in Kansas City, MO. Richard then attended Christian Brothers College in Memphis, TN and Finlay Engineering College in Kansas City. Richard proudly served in the US Coast Guard Reserve and was an owner of A. Zahner Sheet Metal Company.
Richard was happily married to his wife, Rita Coolick, for 65 years. They have four children, Richard, Jr. (Jill), Paul (Leigh), Ann Marie (Gil) Eckart, and Julie (Aaron) Wright.
Richard enjoyed all outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, and boating. He loved going to dinners with his family and friends and spending long weekends in Peel, AR and Lake of the Ozarks, MO. He was an active member of Cure of Ars Church and was involved in many local causes and charities, including the Builders of Association of Kansas City and Seton Center just to name a few.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Leo & Allee, his brother Leo, Jr., his sister Margaret Ann Schmidt along with her husband James Schmidt, Sr., and his brother-in-law Harry McDonald, Sr.
Richard is survived by his wife Rita, his sisters Elizabeth McDonald and Eileen Zahner, and his sister-in-law Katy Zahner. His children Rick, Paul, Ann, and Julie. His nine grandchildren; Sara, Richard III (Megan), Joseph, and David Zahner; Emileigh Zahner; Bonnie and Ronnie Eckart; and Olivia and Andrew Wright. As well as his three great-grandchildren: Greyson, William, and Thomas Zahner.
Richard’s Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 14th at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64131. On Thursday, December 15th, a rosary will led by the Ladies of Charity at 11:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM at Cure of Ars Church, 9401 Mission Rd, Leawood, KS 66206. Interment will be located at Resurrection Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS 66215.
