Pure Duque Soriano

Pure Duque Soriano, age 95, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2017 at Wood Oaks Assisted Living Facility. All services will be at Holy Rosary Parish, 911 E. Missouri Ave., KCMO 64106, on Saturday, October 28th with the Rosary prayed at 9am, Visitation following, and Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10am. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.Pure was born on July 24, 1922 in the Philippines to her father, Felipe de la Vega Duque and mother, Victoria de la Cruz Pangon. She married Joe Soriano on June 13, 1970. Pure attended the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, where she majored in English and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1953. She also took a post-graduate course on Advanced Educational Psychology.Her career path began as an alteration girl at Woolf Bros. Inc., then later pursuing a finance career, serving as the Accounts Payable Coordinator at Halls Merchandising Inc. where she ended up retiring from. Pure was very involved in her community. She served as Committee Chairperson, Scholarship Committee of the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City, as well as an Editor-in-Chief for Tambuli, a publication of the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City. Pures special interests consisted of writing prose and poetry, singing and listening to music, watching sporting eventsbaseball, football, basketball, volleyballas well spending time with her friends, family, and pets. Pure is survived by her nieces, Mirla N. De los Santos, Rebecca N. Pacheco, Julie R. Millare, Lita Guico, Ellen Santos, and Sonnie Santos; her nephews, Reynaldo D. Nunez, Alberto D. Nunez, Mario D. Nunez, Celso D. Nunez, Rodrigo D. Reyes, Romeo D. Reyes, Felipe D. Reyes, Ramon D. Reyes, and Eddie Santos; along with her many beloved grandchildren and special friends, Violeta C. Ignacio and Thelma Padolina Serrano. The family would like to thank the staff at Wood Oaks Assisted Living of Independence and Ascend Hospice of Lees Summit for their outstanding services given to Pure Duque Soriano.
