Phillip Eugene Melton

May 17, 1948 — December 22, 2017

Phillip Eugene Melton, 69, of Kansas City, MO. passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2017, at KC Hospice House.
Phillip was born May 17, 1948 in Springfield, MO. to Harold Eugene Melton and Lorraine Joyce Edwards Melton. He was an Eagle Scout, an accomplishment he achieved in his early teens and that made him very proud. Phillip graduated from Springfield Central high school in 1966. He enjoyed scuba diving, boating at Table Rock Lake and he was also a major IRL racing fan and attended the Indy 500 for many, many years.
Phillip spent his professional career as a railroad man, working in five states in a variety of positions for the Frisco, Burlington Northern and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railways. He loved his work and his railroad family but after 41 years of railroading, and at the age of 60, he retired and Phillip and Paula moved back to his final destination and to a city he loved dearly, Kansas City. Phillip loved retirement, and was an avid Chiefs, Royals and Mizzou fan, no matter how good or bad their seasons. He loved barbecuing, entertaining, listening to the blues and jazz but it was the sharing of these joys with family and friends that made him the happiest. He loved traveling, especially to northern California, seeing all the sights in San Francisco, wine tasting in Napa and Sonoma, best most of all, his beloved Lake Tahoe.
Phillips home and neighborhood was his pride and joy and he walked it every day until he couldnt, greeting neighbors and giving dog treats to his furry friends. He served for many years on the neighborhood homeowners association as an officer and enjoyed helping his community in many ways. Simply put, Phillip was a good man.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, an uncle, and cousins. He leaves behind his loving wife of 24 years, Paula, a daughter, Stacie Lynn Krenicki (Dan), a son, Gavin Eugene McIntire, three grandsons, Byron Eugene McIntire, Cole Ervin McIntire and Kai Daniel Krenicki, and his step-mother Rita Melton, all of whom he loved and they loved him dearly as well. We will all miss Phillip every day. Also, John Melton (Micki), Chuck Melton, Michelle Melton, Mark Melton, Jared and Dillion Melton.
A private celebration of life will be held honoring Phillip at a later date. Any memorial donations can be made to KC Hospice House or to CurePSP.org. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.muehlebachchapel.com
