Obituary

Peter Francis Malone passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026 surrounded by his family at their home in Kansas City, Missouri. He lived a life defined by love, purpose, and quiet strength, even as he faced a prolonged battle with cancer.

Pete was born on July 12, 1961 in Wauwatosa, WI to his parents Margaret Mary and James Leo Malone. As the youngest of seven children, Pete’s childhood helped shape him into a patient listener and a calming presence that naturally brought people together. He shared a lifelong bond with his siblings Jim, Maggie, Sheila, Molly, Shannon, and John.

After attending Marquette University High School, Pete earned both his undergraduate degree and MBA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In 1991, Pete moved to Kansas City to begin his career at Hallmark, where he later met Kathy, his life partner and beloved wife of 31 years. He went on to spend nearly two decades at DEMDACO, where he was a respected leader known for his strong work ethic and the genuine respect and admiration he earned from his colleagues. At the same time, he and Kathy raised their three children, Jack, Nora, and Danny, a role that was more important to him than anything else.

Faith was an important part of Pete’s life and shaped how he showed up for others. Raised Catholic and influenced by his Jesuit education, he was grounded in humility, respect, and care for those around him. He attended Mass with his family, participated in men’s faith groups, and contributed his time and resources to organizations throughout the Kansas City community. He believed in treating every person with dignity, supporting marginalized and underserved communities, and living his faith through action and service.

Pete found great joy in his many hobbies. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed traveling, playing golf, spending time at the family cottage in Oostburg, baking bread for friends and neighbors, and supporting his favorite Wisconsin sports teams. Above all, Pete’s greatest pride was his family, whom he loved dearly. He had a magnetic personality, a genuine interest in others, and he made a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Pete is survived by his wife Kathy (Haggerty) Malone, children Jack Malone (Natalia), Nora Malone (Ryan Hayward), Danny Malone, and his six siblings. He is preceded in death by his parents. Rosary will be prayed on Sunday, April 19, at 5:30 p.m. at Muehlebach Funeral Chapel, with visitation to follow from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Mass will be held on Monday, April 20, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon reception following Mass at the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bishop Sullivan Center in Pete’s name.
