Peggy Jane Pruitt, a beloved member of our community and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at KU Hospice House, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and creativity. Born on December 30, 1927, in Prescott, Kansas, Peggy touched the lives of those around her in countless ways throughout her remarkable journey.
Peggy spent her career in marketing, where she made an indelible mark as an Assistant Account Executive at Brewer Advertising and later as an Account Executive at Marketing Communication, where she was one of the early adopters of computer technology in the field. Beyond her professional achievements, Peggy was deeply devoted to her faith and her community, serving as a sponsor for Catechumens at Visitation Catholic Church. She took great pride in giving tours of the new church and was an active member of the Senior Ministry Team, offering her time and passion to those in need.
Those who knew Peggy will fondly remember her extraordinary culinary talents. She was famous for her apple pie, renowned for its crust that melted in your mouth. Her love for cooking extended beyond pies; she also delighted family and friends with her pickles and donuts brought from Kansas City. Her artistic flair was showcased in her beautiful quilts, which she lovingly crafted, and her floral arrangements which brightened many homes. Peggy had a way of bringing joy and warmth to every moment, whether it was through her handmade creations or the warmth of her spirit.
Peggy's lively personality shone through in everything she did. Described as feisty and outspoken, she had a knack for keeping everyone entertained with her wit and wisdom. She was kind, with a fun-loving nature that made every family gathering feel special. Many considered her to be like a second mother, someone to lean on and admire. Her niece, Janie, reminisces about the adventures they shared, from spirited hikes through the woods to unforgettable trips to a dude ranch in Colorado. The memories of these times will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who loved her.
She is survived by her cherished nieces and nephews: Janie Noel and husband Bill, Laurie Moore and husband Jack, Connie Krull and husband LM, Julie Tholen and husband Bob, Chris Pruitt and wife Ann, and Joe Pruitt and wife Diana. Each has their own treasured memories of Peggy that they will carry with them—a testament to her nurturing nature and the love she shared so freely.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Pleasant and Myrtle; her sister, Naomi Cosens; and her brother, John Pruitt. Although they have left this world, Peggy's memory will live on through her legacy of love and the profound impact she made in the lives of her family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Peggy's life on April 7, 2026, at Visitation Parish in Kansas City, where a Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM. A graveside service will be held later that day at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery in Mound City at 2:00 PM.
As we say goodbye to Peggy Jane Pruitt, let us remember her with hearts full of love and gratitude for the precious time we shared. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light in our lives.
