Patrick Medina, fondly known to family and friends as Pat, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in his cherished hometown of Kansas City, Missouri. He was born on March 17, 1925, in Kansas City, and lived a remarkable life that spanned a century, filled with hard work, love, and community spirit.
Pat dedicated nearly 30 years of his life to the trade he loved, operating his Jewelry & Watch Repair Shop located at 722 Minnesota Ave until its closing in March 1986. A meticulous and skilled jeweler and watch repairman, he was known for his craftsmanship, perfectionism, and attention to detail. His work not only kept the timepieces and adornments of Kansas City ticking but also brought joy to countless customers who left his shop with smiles and repaired family heirlooms.
His passion extended beyond the trade; Pat was an avid baseball fan, proudly cheering for the Kansas City Royals both from the bleachers and through the screen at home. His vibrant personality shone as brightly as the diamonds he worked with—fun-loving and sometimes flamboyant, he would often help form makeshift baseball teams with neighborhood kids and delight them with ice cream on warm summer days. He was not only a devoted father but also a cherished figure in the lives of the children around him, always eager to be that father-figure for those who may not have had one.
After serving his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, where he fulfilled his patriotic duty despite facing challenges in enlistment (darn flat feet), Pat honed his craft at the Kansas City School of Watchmaking, earning his certification in watch repair. His dedication to excellence mirrored the perfectionist nature he upheld in every aspect of his life.
Pat is survived by his beloved children: Patricia Shanks, Diane DeLeon (husband Tony Carrato), Michael Medina (wife Beckie), and Andy Medina (wife Lynn); as well as his last surviving sibling, his sister Antonia Medina. He took great pride and joy in his legacy, which includes eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
He joins his late parents, Modesto and Paula (Jacinto) Medina, his beloved wife of 77 years, Lucy G. Medina, his daughter Deborah Medina, granddaughter Amy Medina, and his eight siblings, embracing them once again in the peace of eternity.
Though Pat's life journey came to a close after a brief stay at Saint Luke's Hospice House, he lived a long and full life, embodying the belief that "Every dog has his day." His laughter, wisdom, and love for life will echo indefinitely in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Patrick Medina, let us reflect on the joy he brought into our lives and the love he shared so freely. Visitation will be held at 10:00am on May 28, 2025, at Muehlebach Funeral Care, followed by a funeral service at 11:30am, concluding with his interment at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
