Obituary

Patrick Anthony Galvin, 82, passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2026, with the love of his life, Mary, by his side. In true Patrick fashion, he left this world "with a bang" on Independence Day.

Patrick was born on November 8, 1943, in Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland, to Patrick ("Paddy") and Mary ("Mol") Galvin. Growing up in rural Ireland, he learned the value of hard work at an early age, delivering goods throughout town by horse and buggy.

At just 17 years old, Patrick met the love of his life, Mary. He chased her across Ireland and eventually across the Atlantic, immigrating to Kansas City in 1964 at the age of 20. They were married on May 31, 1965, beginning a marriage that would span more than 61 years. Together they welcomed their son, Craig, in 1971, became US citizens in 1975, and had their daughter, Meghan, in 1984

Patrick began his career in Kansas City's garment industry working for Lee Wall, Betty Rose, and Mendel ending in management at Youth Craft. Later, he found a second family at St. Thomas More, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Pat." For more than 24 years, students & faculty came to know and love him for his work ethic and quick wit.

Patrick never met a project he couldn't tackle. If it was broken, he believed it could be fixed. He loved tinkering, building, repairing, and finding a solution to just about anything. He was happiest with tools in his hands and a project in front of him.

He was also known for his mischievous Irish charm and wonderfully inappropriate sense of humor. Patrick loved to flirt, tell stories, tend bar, twirl a lady on the dance floor and make people laugh. He had a way of making everyone feel like an old friend.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Nora Greenwood, Kay Walsh, and Joe Galvin; and his nephew, Bryan Galvin.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Mary Galvin; his son, Craig Galvin; his daughter, Meghan Galvin and her partner, Will Young; his cherished grandchildren, Declan Galvin and Cailen Patrick Galvin.

To us he was Dad, Papa, our favorite handyman, storyteller, and the stubborn Irishman who taught us that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing right

“May you be poor in misfortune, rich in blessings, slow to make enemies, quick to make friends, and may you be in heaven a full half hour before the devil knows you're gone.”
