Patricia (Pat or Patsy) was born on August 14, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri, the second child, and the first daughter of Patrick and Anna Devine. She shared a birthday with her beloved brother, Jim Devine, and was the proud big sister of Alice, Mary Margaret and Kathleen.

Tragically, Pat’s father passed away when she was only 10-years old, and Kathleen was still an infant. At just 16-years old, Pat graduated from Glennon Catholic High School and started working full time to help financially support her widowed mother. In fact, she became a second mother to her young sisters, all of whom called her a hero for all her sacrifices to help raise them.

While attending a church social, she met Tom Carroll and her future was sealed. She married Tom on August 31, 1956, and together they ran Harris Picture Frames and Gallup Map Company, all while raising seven children and continuing to care for her mother. As if life wasn’t busy enough for her during this time, she even went back to college to earn an Accounting Degree to help with managing the company.

In the midst of running a family business, Pat provided a loving, faith-filled home, preparing countless meals and running endless rounds of laundry for her large family. Additionally, she was a reliable Den Mother to Cub Scouts and Camp Fire Girls and cheered on her children in the endless stream of band concerts, parades, football halftime shows, plus basketball and volleyball games. For “vacation,” she planned and packed food and clothing for nine people, miraculously finding a place for everything and everyone in the old woody-wagon and camper for unforgettable annual trips to Colorado or Arkansas.

The Church was the heart of their family life, providing her with not only a perpetually close and comical circle of friends but her children with a deep and abiding faith in God. While Tom eventually became a deacon, it was Pat who pulled double duty with the business, and especially with the children, throughout his four years of study and subsequent years of tireless service to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

Pat had a litany of dear friends that she enjoyed spending time with, including “The Poker Group,” and her beloved and mischievous “Apostles.” She was very proud of her Irish heritage and with these friends, enjoyed many legendary St Patrick's Day parties down at "The Shop." After she “started” to retire in 1986 (it was a process), she became a travel junkie and finally put her mapping skills from her business to good use! She relished the opportunity to visit destinations all over the globe (particularly with “The Apostles”): Italy, Ireland, Hawaii, Panama Canal, Canada, England, Scotland, the Caribbean, Alaska, Bahamas, and Cancun, plus numerous places in the U.S.

Eventually, she traded traveling for more time with her grandchildren and now great- grandchildren, generously sharing her love and wisdom with yet another generation. She always pointed out blooming trees and flowers, stopping whatever conversation she was having, to make sure anyone near her appreciated them as much as she did.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Tom, in 1986 and a granddaughter in 1997, Rebecca. She leaves behind her sister Kathleen, seven children: Mary Carroll, Tom Carroll (Chris), Patrick Carroll (Kelly), Anne Kaveski (Joe), Dan Carroll (Lisa), Maureen Stowers (Don) and Tricia Becker (Joe). Sixteen grandchildren: Kara Lindeman (Shawn), Sean Carroll, Meghan Wright (Kevin), Lauren Bond (Collin), Rachel Carroll, Sara Carroll (Chetan), TJ Carroll (Coryn), Jorge Carroll, David Stowers, Sam Stowers, Mary Poor (John), Shannon Becker, Regan Becker, Charlotte Becker, Cabot May, and James May. She topped it off with three great-grandchildren: Austin Bond, Hudson Bond, Kennedi Bond, and baby girl Wright (arriving soon). She also leaves behind to cherish her memory twenty-one nieces and nephews and their families that she adored and countless friends.

All services will be held on Friday, September 25th at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will begin at 9:30am, the Rosary will be prayed at 10am, with a Mass of Christian Burial following. Following the luncheon, an Inurnment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
