Ophelia Valverde Lane

October 27, 1922 — February 19, 2018

Ophelia Valverde Lane, 95, passed away at Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Merriam, KS, on February 19, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO, born and raised on the citys West Side. She was fiercely proud of her city and her Mexican heritage. Ophelia belonged to the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) and proudly worked for over 40 years as a Quality Control Supervisor for the H.D. Lee Company and Mendels Dress Manufacturing Company. Upon retirement from the ladies garment industry, she started a second career, working for many years as a housekeeper for three families, becoming a beloved member of each family. Her passion for quality, love of life, and sense of humor will be greatly and painfully missed. She knew no strangers.As a child her family joined the Mexican Christian Church, later known as Alta Vista Christian Church, and she remained a lifelong member. She was a strong supporter of her church and her faith. She was president of the Churchs Womens Council, a member of the Churchs Board, a young peoples teacher, and Treasurer of the Christian Womens Fellowship. She also devoted significant time to the Salvation Army.Ophelia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward L. Lane; her parents, Juan de Dios and Jesuscita Maria (Corral) Valverde; her sister, Consuelo; and her brothers, Robert, Ralph, Walter, and Carlos. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.All services will be held at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave., KCMO, on Fri., Feb. 23rd with Visitation at 2pm, Service at 3pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, Senior Citizen Club, 500 W. 39th KCMO 64111.
