After high school, Maxine began working at the Rudy Patrick Seed Company in the West Bottoms, where she met her boss and future husband, Robert "Bob" Liebst. They were married on October 21, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri. Maxine and Bob raised their children in Kansas City, Missouri until they moved to Overland Park, Kansas in 1965.
