Maurice Charles Carey, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at his home in Kansas City. He was the son of Neil and Jane Dougherty Carey.
Maurice was a graduate of Rockhurst High School and Rockhurst College, graduating in 1961 with a degree in Industrial Relations. Following college, he served in the Navy and subsequently pursued a career in the mortgage banking industry, founding his own consulting company, Equity Services Company.
During his early career, Maurice also served as a reserve police officer in Overland Park for 10 years and represented his local community as a Republican committeeman. He was a lifelong Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Kansas City.
Maurice was a friend to many and was widely known and respected for his engaging personality, his light-hearted humor and ready smile, and his charity and good will toward all.
Maurice was predeceased by his sister Mary Carey Lynch in 2008. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane, five children: Kevin Carey, Dan Carey-Whalen, Janie Weeks, Sean Carey and Kathleen Bellinger, two sisters, Ann Schmiedeler, and Jean Carey-Brendle, and fifteen loved grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 24, from 5:30 to 7:30 at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 on Tuesday, July 25 at Our Lady of Sorrows, 2552 Gillham Rd. Donations in Maurice’s name may be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
