Mary Ruth Dobbins

Mary Ruth Kelley Dobbins, 76, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, December 30th. She is now reunited with her loving husband E. Ragland (Scrappy). A Memorial Celebration will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 18th at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 6400 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO. A reception will follow in the Jewell Room at the Church.
Mary was born on September 14th, 1942 in Kansas City, MO to Ruby and Clarence Kelley. With her fathers career in the FBI, culminating as Director, Mary and her family traveled extensively. She graduated as a member of Kappa Delta sorority from Auburn University with a BA in Education and began a long teaching career. Mary and Scrappy were married in June, 1965 and started their life together in Kansas City. During a three decade career at St. Pauls Episcopal Day School, she taught kindergarten, directed the summer program and retired as Director of Admissions. Many of todays professionals got their start in Marys classroom.
Mary was an active member of St Andrews Episcopal Church and served in many volunteer capacities. She was a member of Alter Guild, Circle of Grace, Trinity Guild, and the long standing Friday Prayer Group. Additionally, she was a volunteer at Rose Brooks Center and the SPO Gift Shop at Research Medical Center.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Clarence Kelley, her husband Scrappy, and her brother and sister in law, Kent and Donna Kelley. She is survived by her children, Kent Ragland Dobbins (Amanda), Kelley Ann Dobbins, her niece Ruth Noah (Jason), her grandson Sam Dobbins, her granddaughter Ruby Dobbins and a very special friend, Tara Eichorn.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Pauls Episcopal Day School, 4041 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64111 or Heartstrings Community Foundation for Developmentally Disabled Adults, 11599 South Ridgeview Road, Olathe, KS 66061.
Marys positive attitude, faith and inner strength have been an inspiration to her students, friends and all who crossed her path. She will forever be loved and missed.
