Mary Roberta Buckingham, 68, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on January 28, 2021. Visitation will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church at 9:00 am, Monday, February 1, 2021 with Recitation of the Rosary following at 9:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow the Rosary at 10:00 am. Due to COVID-19 and church capacity limitations, the family invites everyone to participate in the live stream service at: http://www.facebook.com/ctkkcmo. The service will be available for viewing online afterwards. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Marys name to Catholic Charities of Kansas City.
Mary was born April 9, 1952 in Kansas City, KS, to Charles G. and Catherine P. (Walter) Payton. She graduated high school from St. Teresas Academy and received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from Metropolitan Community Colleges in Kansas City, MO. She married Allan Buckingham in 1972, and together they had two children; Andrew and Angela.
She enjoyed baking, gardening, and arts and crafts. Mary was a great lover of music, and she sang in church choirs for many years. In her early career, she worked in the medical field, but in later life, she discovered a passion for early childhood education. She took great joy in inspiring young learners to reach their full potential.
She is survived by her husband, Allan Buckingham of Kansas City, MO; her daughter, Angela Buckingham of Kansas City, MO, and son, Andrew Buckingham of Seattle, WA. Also surviving are her brothers: James, Mark, John and Charles Payton. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Kathleen; and brothers, Michael and Raymond Payton.
