IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Lou
Blomster
December 24, 1934 – February 11, 2026
Mary Lou (Martin) Blomster, born Christmas Eve 1934, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 11, 2026. Raised in an Irish Catholic home in St. Francis Xavier Parish, she graduated from Bishop Hogan High School and the College of St. Teresa (now Avila University). Following college, she became an accomplished medical technologist, working for many years in the pathology laboratory at Baptist Hospital.
Mary Lou married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, George Blomster, on September 7, 1957. Mary Lou was a tireless volunteer at St. Peter’s Catholic School when her girls were young, serving as a Girl Scout troop leader and bringing art from the Nelson-Atkins Museum to years of St. Peter’s students as the “art lady.” She took great pride in her work with the parish Altar Society, volunteering well into her 80s.
However, Mary Lou’s greatest accomplishment was the life she built with George and the beautiful family they raised together. They had six children: Suzie Jacobsen; Terry (CJ) Keen; Chip; Jeanne; Lisa (Peter) Collins; and Mimi (Bob) Stopperan.
Mary Lou was blessed with thirteen grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished: Elizabeth Winsby (Brian Guard); Steven Stolberg; Justin (April) Stolberg; Hunter Thomas; Katie (Bryan) Millard; Matthew Keen; Annika Blomster; Crawford (Sarah); Whit; Campbell and Cooper Collins; and Julia and Megan Stopperan. She was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren.
Mary Lou especially enjoyed holidays, and all her grandchildren looked forward to going to Grandma’s house to bake Christmas cookies with her and their cousins.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many- some from childhood and many more she met along the way. Mary Lou particularly enjoyed her bridge group, although we’re not sure how much bridge was actually played when they gathered.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, John and Theresa Martin; her beloved husband, George; her brother, Jack Martin; her son, Chip; and her daughter, Terry.
