Mary Ann Livingston, 87, passed away Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born February 26, 1935, to Joseph Nicholas and Caroline Carolyn Marguerite (Exposito) Breitenstein of Jefferson City, Missouri. Mary moved with her family to Kansas City, Missouri when she was in 5th grade. Mary graduated from Lillis High School in Kansas City, where she was a varsity cheerleader all 4 years. She graduated with a Nursing degree from St. Marys Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri. Mary met the man of her dreams, Gene, at a Redemptorist Parish Catholic Social. Gene was instantly smitten with Marys humor and clever disposition. She married Eugene Gene Orville Livingston, on August 31, 1957. Together, they raised four wonderful children and shared 60 years of marriage together. Mary was a woman of strong Catholic faith and was an active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and later in life at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, both parishes in Kansas City, Missouri. Mary worked in healthcare at St Marys Hospital and at Kansas City Community Blood Bank. Mary was a dedicated volunteer and enjoyed donating her time and energy to Parish blood drives, The 49/63 Neighborhood Coalition, and Visiting Nurses Association. Throughout her life, Mary was involved in nurturing the young, whether a baby, child, or young adult. Her giving nature is witnessed by driving her brood to all of their sporting events and lessons in the taxi-cab orange-colored station wagon, being a den Mother for Cub Scouts, Teaching CCD religious classes at the Catholic church, inviting the Catholic nuns to live in their family home while the family of six lived in a two-bedroom apartment, sending her children to Annunciation Grade School as part of the De-segregation Movement, or giving a young female Asian Immigrant a new start by living in their home. She was guided by the Holy Spirit and nurtured everyone around her.
Marys activities included traveling around the United States with friends and family, hosting family events, baking, cake decorating with edible organic flowers, tap dancing, playing (winning) competitive tennis, camping trips with her young family, and hosting annual family camping and canoeing ventures at Missouri rivers. At the annual camping & canoe weekends, Marys picnic table always donned a white lace tablecloth, fresh cut flowers, a chilled beverage, and lots of love. She was the cornerstone of the family and a loving caregiver to all.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Caroline Breitenstein, her loving husband, Eugene Livingston, brothers; James Peter Pete Breitenstein and George Richard Breitenstein and her three infant children, Cynthia M., Mary Theresa, and Joseph M.
