MARTHA NELL (McKAY) NICKLE passed away on July 11th, 2020, in Iowa while visiting friends. The daughter of William J. McKay and Mary Anne McKay, she was born February 17, 1954 in Kansas City, MO. She attended St. Peters Catholic Elementary School, and high school at St. Theresas Academy, both in Kansas City, MO. Marty went on to a career she thoroughly enjoyed with T.J. Cinnamons, where she started out baking and icing their signature cinnamon rolls, graduated to a management role, and became their corporate trainer, traveling across the U.S. to open stores and train employees. Her second career was at Pitney Bowes in Kansas City, MO. Marty met and married Joseph F. Nickle, and they spent many happy years together in their home in Kansas City, MO. They traveled frequently, with Las Vegas being a favorite destination for the two successful blackjack aficionados. After Joes sudden death in June of 2010 their close-knit extended families and friends, Martys career, and her lifelong passions helped to ease the enormous void. She passed her culinary skills on to her son from her first marriage, Anthony Mori, and his daughters, her beloved granddaughters, Miranda, Gabrielle, and Olivia. She was generous with and famous for, the bounty of her cooking, including her homemade cinnamon rolls, savory quiches and signature holiday cheese balls. From childhood, Marty had a soft spot for animals, and lavished her innate caregiving skills on many, from birds that fell from the nest, to rabbits, dogs and kittens. Later in life, she adopted greyhounds retired from the race track, and then acquired the canine loves of her life, miniature Italian greyhounds, Guinevere or Gwynnie as she would call her, and their baby, Talisen. When diagnosed with MS in 1999, Marty dealt with it with the same strength, determination, grace, and equanimity she had each setback and challenge in her life, despite the pain and what she called her "wobbliness." Always an exceptional caregiver for others, including for her father in her home for many years until his death, she was somewhat reluctant to accept it for herself, and could also be a bit stubborn, especially about her independence! Marty was kind, patient, compassionate, brave, and fiercely loyal. She touched many lives in the most positive ways. She was predeceased by her mother Mary Anne McKay, father William J. McKay, her daughter Nicole Mori. She is survived by her son, Anthony Mori, granddaughters Miranda, Gabrielle, and Olivia Mori, of Kansas City, MO, her brother John W. McKay of Alamos, Sonora Mexico, and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles.Viewing at 10 AM Monday, 7/20/20, at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO, followed by mass at 10:30 AM. Burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO.
