Marilyn Ann Teague Tromans, 72, of Overland Park, KS passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 1, 2026. She bravely faced a rare illness and handled the progression of the disease with such grace and dignity. She is at rest now, held in God’s eternal grace.
She was born on May 16, 1953, in Sedalia, Missouri to the late Alfred Teague and Inez Foulds Teague. After short stays in Knob Noster and Urich, the family settled in Clinton, Missouri where her father served as President of the local Chamber of Commerce and her mother taught mathematics. Marilyn graduated from Clinton High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Missouri with honors.
Marilyn had an illustrious career in accounting, beginning as a CPA at Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young). In 1982, she joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City where she often said, “Do you want it now, or do you want it right?”, a testament to the pride and care she put into her work. She was named a “Woman of Influence” by the KC Business Journal. During her time at Blue Cross, she also met and married her husband, Frederick Tromans. After spending 16 years as Chief Financial Officer, Marilyn retired in 2012, leaving an indelible mark on the business. In retirement, she served on the Board of Directors of the Kansas City Financial Executives Institute and the University of Missouri School of Accountancy Advisory Board. Marilyn also enjoyed cheering on her Mizzou Tigers, traveling across the country and globe with Fred, tending her roses and volunteering at the Kauffman Center of Kansas City.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of nearly 31 years, Frederick Tromans; her sister Ruth (Tom) Gerrity; stepchildren Jeff and Elena (Tate) Owens; and grandchildren Marlow and Sola. She’s also survived by in-laws John (Bonnie) and Anne (Terry) Ungerbuehler; nieces and nephews; and several great-nephews and nieces. She’ll be joined in heaven with her sister-in-law Mary Grilliot, who passed away two days after her. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mary Elizabeth Risley and stepson Alan.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the caregivers at The Atriums and Monarch Hospice for the compassion and support Marilyn received over the last few years. Visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in KC, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Church or The American Red Cross.
