Marilyn Ruth Carr

October 5, 1925 — November 14, 2018

Marilyn Ruth Carr, 93, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully with her family by her side on November 14, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., KCMO on Saturday, December 22, 2018,
Marilyn was born on October 5, 1925 in Wichita, KS, to her parents, Lloyd and Ethyl (Trusty) Stearman and later moved to California. She attended UCLA in 1945 and studied nursing. It was in 1948 that she married the love of her life, Hugh Carr. From their union they had five children. Marilyn made their house a home and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and singing with Sweet Adelines. Marilyn and Hugh spent 67 happily married years together before his passing in 2015.
Marilyn was a creative, intelligent, feisty woman at a time when women were not encouraged to be those things. She made sure we, her children and grandchildren, never felt limited and encouraged us to grow and be who we wanted to be, to reach for the stars. She inspired creativity and taught us. She enrolled us in classes & summer camps and supported our education. She loved us unconditionally and made every one of us feel special.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Hugh Carr. Marilyn is survived by her children, Katherine Carr, Susan Dowell, Marianne Carr (Steve Ashie), Patrick Carr, William Carr and Jackie Carr; along with twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Condolences may be expressed to the family, and photos viewed, at www.MuehlebachChapel.com. Donations may be made to Friends of the Zoo.
