Marie C. Walter

Marie Cecilia Walter, 90, entered into Eternal Life on April 23, 2017. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 26th at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Overland Park, KS. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers and make contributions to Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church or Saint Lukes Hospice House.
Marie was born in Kansas City, MO to Mary Ellen and Leo Mike Walter, and for the majority of her life was a proud resident of Johnson County, KS. She worked for the Social Security Administration for 37 years. She was a member of the Kansas Silver Haired Legislature and eagerly advocated for seniors. She was a devoted member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish, serving in many capacities over the years: Parish Council, hospital Eucharistic Minister, funeral choir, coffee and donuts (25 yrs.), rectory and church cleaning, and grounds beautification, for which the Parish received an award from the city of Overland Park.
Marie had an abundance of friends too many to mention - with whom she made delightful memories over her long life. Wed be remiss if we didnt thank the "Ice Cream Trio", who shared a weekly ice cream night with Marie for decades, including her last 2 years at Bickford of Overland Park.
Marie loved cars, flowers and gardening, the Kansas City Chiefs, music, playing the organ, and especially family she delighted in being a fun, funny and wonderful aunt to her nieces and nephews. Suffice to say we were all cherished and spoiled; her gifts for all occasions were predictably signed "Love and kisses, Aunt Marie".
She was pre-deceased by her parents, brothers (and wives) Leo (Helen), Lawrence (Katie), Leland, and Richard. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Peg Walter, 8 nieces/nephews, 16 great nieces /nephews, and 4 great-great nieces/nephews with two "on the way".
The family thanks Bickford of Overland Park, Shawnee Mission Medical Center and Saint Lukes Hospice House for their wonderful care of Marie.



There will be a luncheon at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church immediately following Mass.
