Maria Varughese

Maria Varughese, 57, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully on May 11, 2019 at 3:35 PM, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 18, followed by Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 4101 E 105th Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64137. Mass will be followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64138.
Maria was born May 28, 1961 in Ramapuram, Kerala, India. She was born to Chandy Mani and Thresiamma Mani and is the oldest of six sisters and one brother. She had a passion for helping the sick, so she decided to pursue a career in nursing. She graduated in 1980 from St. Martha's College of Nursing in Bangalore, India, where she also made some lifelong friends.
She came to the U.S. with her husband and two children in 2004, and spent several years serving patients in critical care units at various hospitals. She lived a selfless life, devoting all her time and efforts for the well-being of her family and helping those in need. She deeply valued and held up the Catholic faith in her life and brought her family up in the same ideals.
Maria is preceded in death by her grandparents and is survived by her husband of 26 years, Joseph Varughese; her two children, Avinash Joseph and Nikhil Joseph; her parents, Thresiamma Mani and Chandy Mani; her sisters, Jeemol Baby, Reetha Simon, Rani George, Binu Shaji, Resmy Jeemon, Deepthi Mani; and her brother, Abhilash Manuel.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard McKittrick, Dr. Kelly Young, and Dr. Cosmo Caruso, who cared for her and helped extend her life for two years. The family also specially thanks the caregivers of Kansas City Hospice House for providing compassionate care during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made in Marias name to Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64131.
