Mrs. Maria A. Garcia, 89, died peacefully, in Kansas City, MO on May 18th, 2021. A visitation will be held at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave. Kansas City, MO 64131, on Wednesday, May 26 from 6:00-8:00 pm, with the Rosary beginning at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:00am on Thursday, May 27 at St. James Catholic Church 3909 Harrison St. Kansas City, MO 64110. A livestream of the mass will be available on the Muehlebach Funeral Care Facebook page.
Maria was born to Eugenio Villegas and Otillia Perez Villegas on August 4, 1931. She arrived in Kansas City from Mexico in 1956. She met and married John V. Boland in 1957. John passed away in 1958, leaving her as a widow. Maria remarried, Phillip Garcia in 1967.
Maria was a faithful, loving and patient wife, mother and friend who always trusted in Gods ways. She loved time with family, friends and good food; she always relished a new recipe. She enjoyed learning her adopted language and took many English classes. She loved learning anything about the world around her.
Maria loved to travel and never missed an opportunity to do so with her son or daughter. Albuquerque, Denver, Houston, New York, Rome, Paris, Rio, Berlin, Buenos Aires, she loved them all and the time it gave her with her children.
She always gave back to the Lord. She volunteered many a time at church functions and was equally as generous with school functions while her children were in school. She was also a good and involved neighbor. In 2017 she was one of six to receive the 6th Annual Unsung Octogenarian Citizen Award. Her kindness and care extended to everyone.
She is survived by her son John V. Boland of Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Angelica M. Garcia of Queens, NY; grandchildren Jill Wilbeck, John V. Boland, Zachary Anderson Boland; great grandchildren Jackson and Opie Boland, and Parker Wilbeck; niece Virginia Vargas of Kansas City, MO; Gloria Amador, Victoria Williams and nephew, Mark Martinez. Maria also leaves a large loving family in Mexico City, Mexico consisting of two sisters Catalina Villegas Briseno 100, Rita Villegas Vlazquez 91 and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by John V. Boland 1958, Phillip C. Garcia 2000, and her loving sister Carmen Villegas Mendoza 2011.
Her gentle, loving and happy spirit will be missed forever.
