Suzanne Carroll was the eldest of four children born to J. Maurice Carroll and Theresa Crowe Carroll in Kansas City, Mo. Suzanne grew up and attended elementary and high school in Kansas City and entered the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth.With the Sisters of Charity, Suzanne became a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher, focusing on the language arts and drama, teaching in schools across the United States, including Missouri, Montana, Colorado, and Massachusetts. Always mindful of her own education, she earned a Masters degree from Notre Dame University and a PhD from Indiana University.In her midlife, Suzanne left the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth and, in addition to continuing to teach, became involved in the gender equality and women's empowerment movement, attending the Fourth World Congress on Women in Beijing in 1995. She taught literature and theatre at several colleges in New England, and at one point lived in the Susan B. Anthony Home in Adams, Massachusetts.
After retiring from teaching, Suzanne moved back to Kansas City, Mo., which, she was not shy about saying, is just about the best city in the world. She was a loving Aunt to her sixteen nieces and nephews, Martin Carroll, Rowan Carroll, Bolton Carroll, Christian Carroll, Connie Brandfonbrenner, Brook Ford, Adam Carroll, Monica Carroll, Tory McCarthy, Tom Muller, John Muller, Anne O'Connor, Dan Muller, Lisa Johnson, Suzie Eckard, and Patrick Muller, 30 great- nephews and great-nieces, and 2 great-great-nephews.A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 30 at 11:00 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church, 701 East Meyer, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, 4200 S. 4th St., Leavenworth, KS 66048-5054.
