Lucy Camerillo, 85, passed away Feb. 15, 2020. A wake will be held on Sun., Feb. 23 from 3-5 pm at Muehlebach Funeral Home, 6800 Troost Ave., KCMO. Lucy was born, the second youngest of 9 siblings, in Kansas City, KS, March 21, 1934 to Rose Margaret Hayden and Samuel Cornelius. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings; Samuel M. Cornelius, Marie Ewing, Pearl Ciko, Virginia Stinnett, Genevieve Spini, Lorraine Mellon, and Charles Lee Cornelius, as well as two sons; Joseph A. Cornejo and David Michael Camerillo. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence Cornelius of Monrovia, MD, daughter, Rosalie Cornejo, 6 sons; Manuel Camerillo, Jr., Nick Camerillo, Ricky Camerillo, Ronald Camerillo, Gary Camerillo, and Michael Camerillo, as well as 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Lucy was a very loving, supportive, and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Family always came first, as she would say.
Lucy went to work right after graduating from Northeast High School. She worked for South Western Bell as a switchboard operator, on an assembly line for Lays Potato Chips as well as for Bendix, Hilton Hotel as a clerk, until finally finding her long-term career as a bank teller until her retirement.
Lucy had a big heart and seem to be always helping others. She was a volunteer for the Network which provided support for those with special needs. She would always lift others spirits with her sense of humor. She once revised a song for the Staff at the Network for their staff appreciation week. It was heartwarming for all who volunteered or worked there. She attended as many birthdays, weddings, award ceremonies, and new births in the family as much as she possibly could. Lucy was also a dedicated Chiefs fan during the good or not so good seasons. This was another way of spending quality time with her family.
