Lucille May Weaver

September 8, 1922 — April 8, 2022

Lucille May Weaver, 99, a longtime resident of Lee's Summit, passed away on 8 Apr 2022, at Kingswood Health Center in Kansas City, MO.
Lucille was born 8 September 1922 in Kansas City, MO, the only child of Joseph James and Beulah Beatrice (Halcomb) Lannon. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1939, then attended Kansas City Junior College for the next two years, and worked for the Corps of Engineers during the war years. Lucille met her future husband, Robert L. "Bob" Weaver, during his first leave home from the Marines in 1940, and kept in touch with him as best as could be while he was serving overseas in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Not long after Bob's discharge from the Marines, at the end of the war, they were married on 25 January 1946, and they had four children together.
Lucille and Bob moved their young family to Independence in 1953. In September 1965, Lucille enrolled at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from there in January 1968. She then taught elementary school, first at West Rock Creek Elementary in Kansas City, and then at Mill Creek Elementary in Independence, until her retirement in January 1985. In between, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Education in May 1975, also from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She and Bob moved to Lee's Summit in 1976. Lucille was a member of Unity School of Christianity in Unity Village for many years. She was most comfortable in water - she just loved to swim, and leaves a legacy of having taught hundreds of people, from little kids to senior citizens, how to swim, much of that as a Red Cross swim instructor at Unity Pool. She and Bob travelled to Hawaii, Ireland, Great Britain, and Australia in their later working years, and after retirement.
Lucille will be missed by the following survivors: three sons, Kenneth Weaver (and wife Donna), of Fallbrook, CA, Keith Weaver, of Torrance, CA, and Craig Weaver, currently of Lee's Summit; three grandchildren, Erin Valdez, of Fallbrook, CA, Justin Weaver, of Oceanside, CA, and Kaitlin Weaver, of San Diego, CA; ; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Kimes, of Kansas City, MO and Barbara Weaver, of Shawnee, KS; a few cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews from her husband's side. In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by: her husband, Bob, on 10 November 2020; and her son, Steven Weaver, her daughter-in-law, Debra (Delancey) Weaver, and her granddaughter, Stephanie Weaver (all on 21 June 1990).
A small graveside service is planned for 1 p.m. on Friday, 15 Apr 2022 at Forest Hill Cemetery, located at Troost and 69th Street in Kansas City, MO. All are welcome to attend.
