Leo Joseph Ratkey

Leo Joseph Ratkey, 92 passed away on October 6th at his home. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 on October 12, 2018 at St Matthew Apostle Church, 8001 Longview Rd, Kansas City Mo followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. A private inurnment for family will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Matthews Apostle Church or Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute (www.TheResearchFoundationKC.org). Leo was born March 17, 1926 In Kansas City, KS to Nicholas and Mary (Frankovich) Ratkey. He prided himself as being full Croatian. He attended Wyandotte High School. Leo served in the US Navy during WWII. Leo entered the navy at age 17 and was part of the Normandy Invasion at Utah Beach at the age of 18. Following that he was deployed to Hiroshima following the atomic bomb to provide water to the army, and also served on a Red Cross Hospital Ship for wounded soldiers. Leo worked for Western Electric for the majority of his career as an electrician retiring in 1986. Leo is survived by his wife Rosemarie Ratkey of 66 years; sons Gary Alan Ratkey and wife Lynn, Randy Lee Ratkey and wife Kris, Ronald Mark Ratkey and his wife Cindy: grandchildren Megan, Kyle, Grace, Claire, Lauren, and Jacqueline: great grandchildren, Chace and Charlotte. He was proceeded in death by brothers, John, Albert and Kazimir Ratkey; sisters Ann Rusbarsky and Florence Cooley.
