Kathryn R. (Cathy) Campbell, 95, passed away on September 5, 2023. Born in Los Angeles, CA on Dec 27, 1927 to James & Kathryn (Agnew) Ryan. She is survived by her children, Ann (Bobbie) (Campbell) Nielsen, Charles I. "Chip" (Debby) Campbell, III, and John R. Campbell; grandchildren, Charles P. (Roxanne) Nielsen, Paul C. (Chelsea) Campbell, Patrick R. Campbell and Daniela C. Campbell; and great-grandchildren, Cohen Nielsen, Bennett Nielsen, Graham Nielsen, and Jace Campbell; 5 Nieces and 1 Nephew and their families. Kathryn was preceded in death by her sister Mary (Ryan) Ackerman; brother James J. Ryan; her husband LTCOL Charles I. (Chuck) Campbell Jr, USMC and daughter Mary Kay Campbell.

 

Kathryn graduated from Marlborough School, Los Angeles, CA, and attended UCLA, and was affiliated with Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. A loving military spouse who traveled the US and Europe with her family through various military assignments. Cathy and Chuck were introduced by mutual friends in LA in 1952 and married in February 1953. Military service had stationing’s in Camp Pendelton, CA, Detroit, MI, Vallejo, CA, Norfolk, VA, Paris, FR, Stuttgart, GR, and Camp Lejeune, NC, before retirement to Kansas City, MO. They were blessed with 4 beautiful children and had many adventures traveling across the US and throughout Europe. She was active with Visitation Parish and the KC Junior League and 30 years with the John Wornall House Museum and as a docent at the Nelson Museum of Art. She also joined her husband for 20 years as a swim team parent for her kids at their “summer home” of Homestead County Club (“HCC”, Prairie Village, KS). Cathy was also known as part of the Rowdy In-Fighters at Sunday evening tennis and dinner at HCC. Cathy moved to Bishop Spencer Place in 2018 as she transitioned from her beautiful home at 66th Terrace in the Brookside area to independent living with her friends.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 10:30 am at Visitation Parish, 5141 Main St., Kansas City, MO 64112.
