Katherine Rosemary “KaRosie” (Hodes) Ismert, 95, passed away peacefully in her home on the Feast of All Souls, November 2, 2023. KaRosie was born the oldest of nine siblings on November 16, 1927 in Kansas City, MO to Herman Joseph and Katherine Rose (Dierks) Hodes. She graduated from Visitation Grade School, St. Teresa’s Academy (1944), and St. Teresa College, now Avila University (1946). She married Martin Edward Ismert, Jr. on Thanksgiving morning, November 25, 1948, and together raised their 13 children.

KaRosie was a lifelong member of Christ the King Parish where she volunteered at the grade school while her children were in school. She worked for Pyramid Pipe & Supply in the early 80’s and enjoyed over 30 years in accounts receivable at Sioux Chief Manufacturing.

KaRosie was a woman of utmost faith, never missing her daily prayers, rosary, and Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church and Saint Thomas More. Her devotion to God and the Catholic Church was an inspiration to everyone she met. She enjoyed traveling, John Wayne movies, reading a great book, and was a passionate gardener. She also adored spending weekends with her FAMILY at her Truman Lake house, “KaRosie’s Nest”.

KaRosie was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Edward Ismert, Jr. “Big Ed”, daughter and son-in-law, Julie Gardner and Tom Gardner; grandsons, Paul Ismert and Neil Farnen; daughter-in-law, Mary Therese Ismert; siblings, Louise Growney, Bob Hodes, Margy Donohue, Bill Hodes and Genie McCowen. She is survived by her children, Kris Lafferty (Mike), Mike Ismert (Alicia), Joe Ismert (Deb), Bill Ismert (Shawn), Dan Ismert (Dana), Matt Ismert (Jeana), Amy Waters (Mike), Philip Ismert (Terri), Mark Ismert (Therese), Angie Maschler (Jerry), Ed Ismert (Julie), and John Paul Ismert (Amy); 76 grandchildren; 133 great-grandchildren; siblings: Betty Ismert, Jerry Donohue (brother-in-law), Ann Hodes (sister-in-law), Pat McCowen (brother-in-law), Martha Hodes, Steve Hodes (Susie); many nieces, nephews, and extended family. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 5:00pm at St. Thomas More Parish, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64131 with a Visitation following until 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Katherine the next day, Friday, November 10, 2023 at 10:00am also at St. Thomas More Parish with a luncheon following.
