Julian Martin Alvarez, 72, of Grandview, Missouri, passed away peacefully with his son and wife at his side on Sunday February 6, 2022 after a long illness.

After graduating from Manual High School in 1969, he was drafted by the Army to serve in the Vietnam War achieving the rank of Sergeant. Sgt Julian M. Alvarez served in the 7th Armored Squadron 1st Air Calvary 1st Aviation Brigade from August 11th, 1969 to March 15th, 1971. Julian was a proud decorated Vietnam veteran, a recipient of two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star for Valor in Combat, and various other medals.
After returning to civilian life in 1971, Julian met the love of his life, Rose Ann Caudillo. They were married on June 3rd, 1972 at Sacred Heart Church in Kansas City. Julian became a father to his only child, Christopher Martin Alvarez.
His granddaughter, Evangelina (Eva) was the apple of his eye. He was with her from the moment she was born and almost every day since.
Julian devoted his life to serving others, especially the children of St. John Francis Regis Elementary School (now St. Regis Classical Academy) where he coached both boys and girls basketball and was a Cub Scouts Troop Leader. He was known as the school Grandpa, welcoming children every morning to school and teaching children about proper respect and care for the flag. Every Veterans Day he would spend time teaching the children about service in the American military. He gifted many of the students and teachers of St. Regis with the Beanie Babies he collected for various occasions.
Julian and his wife were passionate bowlers. They were members of Loma Vista Bowling Alley, amassing many trophies. Julian also served as a "roadie" for his sons blues band, Hideaway, setting up shows, traveling with the band, and even printing their CD covers and posters. He helped design and print the invitations for his sons wedding. He also collected unique rosaries and coins.
