Joseph Pierre Miquelon III, 62, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 5, 2021. Joe was born on March 26, 1958 in Chillicothe, MO to Joseph Pierre Miquelon II and Julie (Bradford) Miquelon. He was an Eagle Scout and member of Lambda Chi Fraternity at Tulsa University.
Joe devoted his life to music. He was a renowned piano and saxophone player; playing in bands such as Jim Sweeney and The Jumpshotz, The Zoo, The Blue Riddim Band, New Riddim, Boko Maru, Tony DiPardos KC Chiefs Endzone Pack Band, The Elders, and The KC Aces. He shared the stage with Bonnie Raitt, Albert King, Stevie Ray Vaughnn, Huey Lewis, U-Roy, Ida McBeth, Kevin Mahogany, Parliament Funkadelic, Mike Finnigan, Danny Cox, and many other stars.
Joe also had a passion for teaching music. Spanning over 3 decades of private instruction, he taught hundreds of students and recently taught for The Kansas City Jazz Academy. In 2017, Joe wrote and released his piano book titled "The Beginners Emergency Handbook for Jazz Piano and Theory".
He also loved the Chiefs and Jayhawks, and was an avid chef in the kitchen. Joe relished in telling jokes, talking sports, sharing recipes, and recounting the many infamous stories from his days of touring with bands. He will be deeply missed by all who he touched in one way or another.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his long-term partner, Terri Pulliam. He is survived by his son, Bob Pulliam III and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Bartkoski; brothers Matt Miquelon and Brad Miquelon; nephews Shawn and Lucas, and niece Leila; and great-nieces Lily, Ava, and Stella.
