Joseph C. Bukaty, Sr, age 82, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest, Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at his daughters home.
Services are as follows: Visitation Friday March 1, 2019 from 4:00-6:00pm, with the Rosary being prayed at 4:00pm and on Saturday March 2, 2019, a Catholic Celebration of Life Mass at 10:00am. Burial following at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
Joe was born August 28, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Edward Francis and Mary Margaret (Ushler) Bukaty. He was the youngest of 6 six children, having 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
Joe spent his whole life in Kansas City. He graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1954, attended St Benedicts College.
Joe and Phyllis met in high school, immediately falling in love. They were destined to be together. During Joes short time at St. Benedicts, the two exchanged hundreds of love letters. They were married November 26, 1955. Following Phyllis death on July 7, 2011, Joe visited her grave every Tuesday. He is now reunited with his soulmate and love of his life, for eternity.
Joe spent over 50 years as an engineer in the steel industry, beginning at Columbian Steel Tank Co., then Southwest Steel Fabricators and ultimately showcasing his uncanny talents independently, with his own Company, Joe Bukaty Steel Sales. Throughout his career, while working with a team of delightful people, Joe had a wealth of ideas problem solving in both fabrication and materials. His hand drawings were executed with precision.
Joe was an avid golfer, loved travelling as well as coaching and attending many many sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He and Phyllis enjoyed regular trips across the United States and once backpacked across Europe. Later in life, Joe enjoyed many road trips to visit loved ones in Texas, New Orleans, Florida, New York, California, New Mexico, Dauphin Island, Branson, Lake of the Ozarks and St. Louis.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary; his loving wife of 63 years Phyllis Lee (Dressler) Bukaty; Sisters Joanne Muir and Rosemary Packwood: brothers Edward F Bukaty, Jr. and Robert Bukaty.
Joe is survived by his Four Children, Joseph C. Bukaty, Jr. (and his wife Robin), Lake Charles, LA, Michael G Bukaty, Kansas City, MO, Juliana Bukaty, Kansas City, MO and Robert P Bukaty, Leawood, KS. Ten Grandchildren, Rosemaria Bukaty, Alana Bukaty, Caitlynn Todd, Phyllis Joie (PJ) Bukaty, Michael Bukaty II, Ryan Bukaty, Michaela Mitchell, Nicholas Bukaty, Emily Bukaty and Aiden Bukaty; Three Great-grandchildren, Isabella, Lynlee and Olivia. His Sister Irene Broyles; and many beloved Nephews and Nieces; as well as a plethora of dear friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
