Joseph A. Plewa

Joseph A. Plewa, 86, of Southwest Kansas City, passed on December 17, 2017 at Santa Marta Retirement Community. He was born October 28, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mr. Plewa lived in Austria and Germany, Appleton, Wisconsin, and Chicago and Mt. Prospect, Illinois. He moved to Kansas City in 1960. He was in sales for the Kimberly-Clark Corporation before he retired in 1988. Plewa was an Army Veteran and served as a Special Agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps in Austria and Germany. A 1954 graduate of Marquette University, he was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu and Beta Gamma Sigma, Honorary Fraternities, and Delta Sigma Pi and Alpha Delta Sigma Fraternities. Mr. Plewa was a former member of the John F. Kennedy Knights of Columbus, and a former member of The Fourth Degree, Thomas F. Meagher Council. He was also a member of AARP, The National Rifle Association, The Heritage Foundation, and Right to Life Organizations. Survivors include his children, Yvonne (Joe) Garcia of Springbranch, Texas, Bill (Tricia) Plewa of Lenexa, Kansas, Dr. John (Trish Cummins) Plewa of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Mary Cox of Olathe, Kansas; grandchildren, Dan and John Garcia, Michelle (Jimmy) Darby and John Plewa, Noah, Leo and Zoe Plewa, and Kate and Claire Cox.He is preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne L. Plewa; parents, Joseph L. Plewa and Mary M. (Zalewski) Plewa; sisters, Felice (Ray) Janowiak and Jean (Marvin) Brower; and grandson, Tony Garcia. A Catholic, he was a member of St. Thomas More Church. Friends may call between 9am to 10am at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday, December 30th. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30am, with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10am. Private family entombment.We would like to thank the incredible staff at The Santa Marta Health Plaza. Words cannot express our gratitude for the care and compassion you showed our Dad. He was always treated with the utmost respect and dignity.
