JoEllen Flanagan Engelbart, 32, of Kansas City, MO passed away on January 2nd, 2021.
JoEllen was born on December 15th, 1988, the daughter of Tom Flanagan Jr. and JoLynne (Nigro) Jones, in Kansas City, KS. JoEllen graduated from Raymore-Peculiar High School. After high school she attended Truman State University, where she earned a bachelors degree in Political Science, followed by the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), where she earned a J.D. at the School of Law and a masters degree in Public Administration.
JoEllen worked as an Assistant Prosecutor for the Jackson County Prosecutors office, which she joined in 2015 after completing an internship. Most recently, she served as a passionate advocate for victims of crime in the Special Victims Unit, where she helped to protect and defend victims of child abuse and domestic violence. JoEllen was dedicated to public service and doing good in the world. She spent significant time volunteering in the community and was actively involved in numerous non-profit organizations.
JoEllen was joyful, intelligent, and full of love, with a captivating personality that was beloved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and the countless others she had an impact on. JoEllen is survived by her husband Matthew Engelbart, and infant son Ross Engelbart; parents, JoLynne Jones and Tom Flanagan Jr.; brothers, Tom (Patty) Flanagan III, and Larry (Jenna) Flanagan; her in-laws Terri and David Engelbart; and her sister-in-law Michelle (Jimmy) Munson. JoEllen gave birth to her baby boy, Ross, whom she delivered three months prematurely on Dec. 29. JoEllen was also a proud cat-mom to Rosie and Ruthie.
Private funeral services will be held Friday, January 8th at 1 p.m. at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO 64137. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed online at 1 p.m.
