Jerry L. Murphy, 86, of Kansas City, Missouri went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 21, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born February 1, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri to Joseph and Margaret Donahue Murphy. He attended Redemptorist Catholic grade school and high school. He worked in real-estate with his brother Joe in Greeley, Colorado in the early 60s. He was a 30-year business owner of Murphy’s Texaco in Westport. He was a long-time member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was a proud American who loved and served his God, family and community and enjoyed his fellowship with the Redemptorist gang. He was a member of the Holy Name Society at Guardian Angels, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a long time Guardian Angels athletic director and coach of numerous championship teams. He was a proud sponsor of the Fraternal Order of Police and childhood cancer families and was a twenty-five-year cancer survivor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Joe, Pat, Jimmy and Mike, his sisters Cissy, Rosie, Kate, and Helen, his sons John and William, and granddaughter Susan. He is survived by his wife Patricia after 66 years of marriage, children Timothy, Mary Kathleen Hopfinger (Bernard), Elizabeth Dierks (Mark), Margaret Murphy, Joseph (Rosie), Robert (Heather), Maureen Moya (Juan), forty-one grand-children and thirty-four great-grandchildren and two great grand babies on the way. He is also survived by his sisters Julia, Dodie, Rita, Brigid, Cookie, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, December 28 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Linwood and Broadway, Kansas City, Missouri with the Mass of the Resurrection beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery, 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, Missouri.
The family requests no flowers. Donations can be made to Missouri Right to Life or the Vitae Foundation in Jerry’s name. The family wishes to express its appreciation to the staff and nurses at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.
