Jean H. Christensen

Jean Hilda (Beach) Christensen, 98, a long-time resident of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away July 12, 2021, at Beautiful Savior Home in Belton, Missouri. Jean was born January 13, 1923, in Easton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Hilda (Sippel) Beach. Jean was the second of seven children; Doris (Beach) Weber, Robert Beach, Gerald Beach, Kenneth Beach, Philip Beach and infant brother Jackie.
After graduating from high school, she joined the WWII effort as a "Rosie the Riveter" at the Bethlehem, PA steel mill. When the war ended, she moved to the Kansas City area and worked for several years for TWA. She met and married Justin Dwight "J. D." Christensen in 1948, and to this union a daughter, Carol, was born.
Jean stayed home with her daughter until she started school, and then Jean became a very active member of the Leawood Baptist Church, 83rd and State Line Road, Leawood, Kansas, a church that she and her husband were charter members of. She sang in the choir, directed childrens choirs for many years, was a deacon of the church and volunteered at a local nursing home to conduct Sunday services once a month.
She enjoyed writing, especially poetry, sewing, crocheting and participating in the many gatherings of the church members. Her life was truly entwined with the church. She also, along with her husband and daughter, supported many humane and environmental organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother Jackie, her husband, J.D. Christensen in 2004, most of her siblings and several nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol C. Haantz, Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation, no services planned at this time out of an abundance of caution during these pandemic times.
