Janet Sue Powell, 72, passed away December 8, 2021. Janet was born October 10, 1949 in Kansas City, MO to Matthew and Mary Margaret Powers. Janet attended St. Francis Xavier grade school. She graduated High School from St. Teresa's Academy. Janets main occupation was raising 4 hungry boys, traveling the country for soccer and basketball tournaments, Rockhurst and KU football games, and lastly being a friend to so many people who crossed her path and taking care of people. Janets last occupation and one of her favorite jobs was working up at St. Thomas More as the "lunch lady" and helped with the aftercare program as well after school. Janet loved everyone so much from her family to all her friends. Janet also adored her 11 grandchildren. They eventually named her Granet. She did anything for them. Janet will always be remembered as one of the sweetest, kindest, and most loving people on earth.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Mary Margaret Powers; her husband, John Powell; sisters, Carolyn Powers and Kathy Loeb. She is survived by her sons, Sean Powell and wife Jennifer, Chris Powell and wife Kristi, Todd Powell and wife Kelly, Brett Powell and wife Erin; grandchildren, Jack, Paige, Matthew, Anna Kate, Collin, Ryan, Kate, Caroline, Bridget, Luke and Jane; a sister, Kala Avery and her lifelong best friend Mary Ann Cummings.
Visitation will be held 9:30-11:00 am Thursday, December 16th at St. Thomas More, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Thomas More Aftercare Program.
