J.D. was married to the love of his life, Aneta Salmons, for 50 wonderful years. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and shared passions. He was a devoted husband, father, and family man.
He is survived by his wife, Aneta; his two sons, Jareb and Jacob; his daughter; his brother, R.C. Salmons; his sister, Joyce Penton; and several nieces and nephews. He held a special place in his heart for his favorite niece, Elizabeth Ruth Bernius.
J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Salmons and Abbie Salmons, and his brother, Kenny Salmons.
A lifelong traveler at heart, J.D. took pride in marking off visits to all of the lower 48 states. One of his favorite destinations was Biloxi, Mississippi. He also greatly enjoyed traveling to Lake Fork in Texas to visit family friend Terri Moon, where he spent many happy days fishing for crappie. When at home, he found joy in working around the house and staying busy with projects. He was also a loyal and enthusiastic fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Professionally, J.D. dedicated 54 years to the barbering trade. A highly skilled and respected tradesman, he performed at hair shows alongside his wife and later opened one of the top-rated barber shops in Kansas City with his youngest son. His craftsmanship, work ethic, and mentorship left a lasting impact on both clients and fellow barbers.
J.D. will be remembered for his steady presence, strong hands, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the work he took great pride in every day.
